Hello I am a new member of the forum, based in Shropshire in the UK.
I have bought an old CSi Coupe shell and running gear from a late night look on ebay ( never look at ebay if you have had a few drinks). I have a shell from a CSi that was Golf Yellow and has had a lot of bodywork done and most of the paint stripped off, although will need a soda blast to clean up the fine flash rusting that has taken place. There is no structural rust on the body which is good news. After 3 weeks my wife also seems to feel that restoring this car is a good project too, which helps.
I am planning to strip the car and rebuild properly to recreate a Group 2 race car for use in 1970's historics which is becoming more popular in the UK and Europe. I did consider rebuilding to CSI/L spec, but there is no interior to speak of and this is a unique opportunity to build up one of these magnificent racers without having to use a perfect good roadgoing car as a doner vehicle
I will be in need of many parts such as bonnet, doors, boot, some glass and trim parts etc.. but I will be able to swap these for my good 3.0 engine and manual gearbox once I take them out of the car as I am going to replace them with a 3.5l and 5 speed dog leg box and LSD, plus there seems to be a good source on EBAY and via the UK specialists such as ZAPspeed, however if anyone wishes to donate bits they have or can offer them at reasonable rates I am willing and will pay for crriage or even pick them up myself. please email me via the forum
My previous exploits are with Lancia Delta Integrales and I have one in my garage an EVO 1 model which I rescued from the scrapheap and turned into a unique hill climb and sprint car with now over 380 relaible bhp and some suitable suspension and racing modifications I have used this car to hone my home brew engineering skills on. The BMW is much simpler machine, but is a challenge non the less and when finished will be every bit as desirable as the EVO. I hope to be a regular contributor to the forum and will publish pictures as soon as I set up a suitable hosting site. I hope to have the car up and running over the summer and no doubt have many questions to ask
