It seems that some of the new rubber pieces I have for the restoration are coated in a thick, difficult to remove, wax (window seals & door bottoms for one). So far I have tried just hot soapy water and scraping with finger nails. A hard slog, but it sort of works. Any other removal ideas?

Thanks,

Try mineral spirits to wipe off the waxy stuff--aka paint thinner available at any hardware store--isn't harsh, it also works well on adhesives, and the oily grime such as found in door openings. BLUMAX has not suffered from use of same for over 30 years.

Boiling water...

if that scares you, very hot water will help soften the gooey coating for removal
