New tire for classic cars like ours

at tyreleader.co.uk they are over 200 gbp each. i would rather get the pirelli cn-36 for 200 from longstone

at stuckey tyre in oz - they list both the pirelli cn-36 and the dunlop sport classic, but no prices

nothing in the usa so far

I bought a set for my E3 and did 3'000km with them.
Very happy so far.

The cost in Switzerland was 212 CHF per tire (~ 220 USD)

Perhaps it is the V rating that makes this newsworthy. I'm not terribly impressed with the tread pattern. It looks like a typical all season.

Steve, a gratuitous Pirelli shot is in order...

I didn't realize the made the CN36 for a 14" rim!

Loved the tires. Ran them exclusively on my 2002 in the day!

And cheap compared to the XWXs which I still think, price aside, would be my choice for the E9.

Put the Pirelli CN36 on my 1970 Alfa for the look. (The e9 has 16 inch Contis). I don't like the CN36s as much as the square shoulder 10-year-old Michelins that I took off the Alfa. Steering is not nearly as sharp. So, although the Pirellis look great, caveat emptor.

Ok, this is my opening for another gratuitous photo!

Beautiful! My guess is that you don't like Ferrari 355 wheels swapped on to a Daytona? To each their own, but I cannot figure out the predominate school of thought here.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't understand what it is about this particular thread that prompted you to mke this observation.

Nothing about this particular thread. I meant the popular choice amongst E9 guys is 16inch RS wheels. Everyone has their personal opinion and mine is with 14s and I speak up for them at every opportunity! A group 5 or IMSA CSL with center lock BBS E50s would be a heck of an exception to my stubborn opinion!

i'm a little different to both sides of this discussion. i like the 15" wheel on a coupe. there are 3 basic tire sizes that fit. the closest is 205/60-15 or 195/65-15 and 215/60-15 (which is equivalent in diameter to the 205/70-14 or 225/60-14. the tire with the biggest choice is the 195/65-15 ... tons of choices including some v speed ratings ... its just a narrower contact patch like the original 14"

the 14" reminds me of the look of the past 10-15 years of F1 ... this big tire in relation to the wheel itself. now F1 resembles the 16" wheel on a coupe ... a little more metal and less rubber.

the best 2 - 14" tires on a coupe - the XWX and the CN-36, period ... nothing else is even close. but the prices on both of these tires are horrific. you are talking 1200 to 1600 bucks for just the rubber.

I agree on 15" as a perfect non stock solution... nice propositions. Not many good looking wheels though in that size IMO. I have some 15" alpina copies that I really like and weds are an option as well but then you're trading wheel money for tire money (XWX).

Interesting. I did a 1400 mile roda trip on mine, a few hundred in torrential rain, they felt just as good as the modern Michelins that precede them. Perhaps car/rim specific?

so Steve, i assume you are referring to the 15" wheels / tires that you brought to me on that trip. haven't yet driven with those tires yet ... just seen them on your coupe

A friend of mine is selling a set of 15" BBS Mahles for a very good price. I would say that they are the rarest of the sizes that fit.

Yes those rode great for years. 3 trips to Amelia Island.

I'm wondering about these Cinturatos for my e9. I believe 185-70-14 is the factory size our cars. At $149 each they are half the price of the 205-70-14. (and just as beautiful as Steve's) They would look great on my stock 74 turbine alloys.
I'm currently running 195-70-14's. (Carl Nelson's springs, Billstein Touring up front and sports at the rear)
