A buddy of mine has been begging me to come check out a "BMW 3.0" that has been sitting in a garage for 3 yrs, so, finally I did just that. I have owned two 2002's. A 1968 2002ti and more recently a 1972 2002. Both were daily drivers. I currently own a 2008 135i that I love. So I guess I am a BMW guy, not such a bad thing. Anyway, I go to check this car out expecting the worst. What I find is a 1974 3.0 CS, receipt in glove box says the oil was changed just prior to being parked and another $800 worth of tuning, etc... in addition. A check of the dipstick confirms with clear oil at its tip. A relative of the owner had disconnected a bunch of wiring since being parked, he thought the car was possessed? so no chance of starting at time of inspection. The car was once Ceylon but is now "red," has 14" gold BBS wheels and triple Weber 40 DCOEs and is a manual. Not sure if the 5 speed conversion was done. The interior is shot but I've not been able to find any rust other than a little on the underside of the front sheet metal where it looks to have scraped on a parking block or something. Also a little rot through on a small part of one of the wheel arches and some rust bubbles around the sunroof. Looks like with minimal effort it might be able to be driven home under it's own power. I've been looking for a new project and may pull the trigger in the coming weeks as I've always loved these cars. With any luck I'll be joining the ranks as an owner soon.

You may have a problem with the bubbles around the sunroof. If the bubbles are on the trailing edge of the roof, then you have rust between the center roof support and the roof skin (sealed with the infamous BMW foam rubber.) The center support has to be removed to repair the rust. That means removing the headliner, which is a difficult job. AMHIK. That's the bad news. The good news is you will have a lot of help with whatever you want to do with your new-found girlfriend on this forum. Good luck.
Where are you located, BTW?

I'm in the Philly 'burbs, not far from you actually. My wife and I spend a lot of of time in New Hope/ Lambertville area. I'm sure our paths will cross if I do decide to purchase the car, if I don't commit to purchase it I'd like to help the owner sell it to someone who will give it the love it deserves.

Let us know if you succumb to the seductive wiles of the E9 coupe. We have a fairly active group known as the Rocket Dogs, including guys from the Phiily area, who rally their cars around the New Hope/Lambertville area. Great to have you join us. Right, Steve O?
