Hi all -

I'm a long-time '02 guy and just bought my first E9, a '73 CS (April build according to Andreas Hart), verona with a sunroof. I'm trying to get up to speed here and have a couple of quick questions:

1. Should my wipers have an intermittent setting? Right now they only work on high, but I need to know what my repair target is.

2. My hood and side grilles are black. I'm confused as to how the factory selected between silver and black. But I've seen early and late cars with both silver and black grilles, so it's not a year cut-off. Similarly, I've seen both dark and light colored cars with each, so it doesn't seem to be a color issue. Is there some logic here that I've missed? Or is this just BMW of the 70's being BMW (i.e. whatever was in the parts bin when Fritz on the line reached down for the next piece)?

I've already drunk the cool-aid so this is just the first of a million questions, I'm sure. Thanks in advance for any information.

Larry

Welcome! The wiper speed switch is on the center console, driver's side. The on/off is on the stalk, the speed is on the console.

Grill colors were mixed depending on the car color.

Welcome to the house of clear and definitive answers:

1. Veronas rule, good color!
2. Verona goes with silver grilles. Your black grilles could be a late Friday build after Fritz popped his first weissbier, or maybe replaced later in time by PO.
3. The wiper switches are irrelevant as you will not drive your in E9 in the rain. You can remove the wiper motor to keep you away from sinful temptations.

A question of my own, how do I get a job like Andreas?

Welcome, I think by mid 73 grilles were black, most Veronas I've seen are black, at least in later coupes. Please register your VIN in our Registry.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think coupes have intermittant wipers?

I might be wrong and can't say as currently, like yours, mine only work with the speed selector knob pushed in (actually that might be the slow setting) - When pulled out they just stop wherever they happen to be in their sweep and don't move again. I'm thinking the problem is with the actual switch unless anyone else can advise?

Intermittent should be switch down, slow is switch up 1st position, fast is switch up 2nd position. Either bad switch or relay.
