Sounds like a cool car but here's a some feedback on the ad;

Pictures- With all of the camera options out there today (even an iphone), can't you or the owner provide more than one little tiny picture? Buyers today expect some pretty detailed photos, especially on a car like an e9.

Location- Please confirm where the car is located CO, NM, ??

Price- Finally, what about the price? I hate these ads where you have to guess how much a car is, or do we have to honor the owner with an offer?

i hate to beatup on somebody helping somebody else ... but i kinda have to agree with Vince on these issues. not so much about where in colorado ... but price and pix are everything. you forgive a lot of things on a less than 20k car ... but on a more than 30k car, its gotta be right. so when you look at pix you have to review it as to what the final cost is going to be budgeted at ... not necessarily where you end up at. we all lie to ourselves (or spouses) don't we?

Price? Great chance to try my pricing model before we hear the answer:

Starting form a 20k base of solid no rust good paint car, here are the deltas
- 4 for color change
+ 3 for new leather
+ 2 for suspension upgrades
+ 2 for Alpinas
+ 1 for rubber seals
+ 6 for engine and 265 Getrag and SS exhaust
+ 2 for cooling system revamp
- 1 for no sunroof
+ 3 for being Socal car
- 1 for not being in Socal lately
+ 1 for dropping names like La Jolla, Coupeking, Alpina, and Petri
- 1 for the microfiche instead of pictures
- 1 for being a 2800CS

Total = $32k +/- 30% based on pictures

Geez

I know pictures are a must I am putting together a photobucket link today which will help explain everything. I am quite familiar with these cars and figured people would remember that. Needless to say I will update 40 plus pictures buy the end of the day today. The car is in Colorado. Asking $40K for this CS. I will update asap

What about A/C and

Documented provenance ( ownership and repair/upgrades), big/small bumpers, quality of paint ($20k cars almost never have good paint IMHO), toolkit?

what can we say - inquiring minds want to know. the good news, is that if its as good as we expect - you are within Arde's +30%. if good people tease us, you get our attention ... and we will look.

I suggested to Hayes that he post this coupe here, he sent me initial pics and and it looks very nice. He and his dad Richard (Sooner) have owned many coupes and 2002s so they know what to look for. They don't post frequently so many members here probably don't know their background and experience with BMWs.

coupe

O am having issues with the pictures but I will get it figured out as soon as I can. I don't post here a lot but I have sold many real raised letter two piece correct roundels here and the only ones that are correct. I don't post here a bunch as my coupe is not ready to talk about yet but will be. I have porsches, a 64 Cadillac many many 2002s and have owned probably close 40+ vintage BMWs. I know this car and it is as close to a no nonsense coupe that is out there. I will put together a good presentation and update soon

Coupes

I have personally owned 5 coupes and have settled with the best I could find in my eyes an original 1972 Schwartz with black guts all power including sunroof and Hirschman antenna and 51K original miles. I have sold 3 CSLs. My fathers car was inspected by the great Murray Fowler who nick named the car the "Virgin" which has about 47K original miles. I helped purchase a 38K original mile 3.0 for my sister that is now listed on the market by the new owners for the upper $60K range. I spent years researching parts all over Europe for these cars and brought in boat loads of rare and fun parts for these cars, but once the market fell so did my import business and I have since had to get a "real" job over my BMW fun job. Thanks for all the comments but I will sort this listing soon. Thanks

Agreed
+ 3 for new leather
I would say +2 for new covered seats +1 for vinyl +2 for leather but although not discussed in my original post this should develop to an entire interior rating headliner tear and stain free +1 Dash would need a rating on wood as well as the padded area door panels etc. I know this is turning to a 200 point rating but could be cool since there are 3600+ E9ers on tis forum

+ 2 for suspension upgrades
Yes I agree but I think some expansion is needed shocks and springs to me are +2, camber plates anti sway bars another 1 or 2

+ 2 for Alpinas
Yes 16" plus 1

+ 1 for rubber seals
I think this can be worth more (not from my description but over all) due to the price here this is a big factor complete seals all windows, doors, trunk, total should be worth 5-7

+ 6 for engine and 265 Getrag and SS exhaust
SS exhaust should be rated over stock and again over a performance muffler, the motor also has a wide range miles, rebuild, by who, cam, efi, carbs, # match, Euro/US etc. Then clutch and tranny conditions

+ 2 for cooling system revamp
These are nice upgrades and should rank over stock, and stock reworked, but this runs into an originality vs. upgrade moment

- 1 for no sunroof
I say maybe no on the subtraction. Sunroofs are more prone to cancer as we all know so a non roof is usually a drier car. Personally I like the hole and in fact I searched high and low for a roofed car that was dry (they exist)

+ 3 for being Socal car
Yes location is everything

- 1 for not being in Socal lately
This I don't understand unless I am looking for a Socal buyer. Are you talking humidity/rust issues or location? The car is in Colorado which nearly the whole state has a lower humidity average than and city in California.

+ 1 for dropping names like La Jolla, Coupeking, Alpina, and Petri
Products yes, linking prominent experts yes

- 1 for the microfiche instead of pictures
Pictures terrible yes my fault on this one.

- 1 for being a 2800CS
I don't feel so. Reason being upgrades are a plus to E9s, a 3.0 with a 3.5 is worth no more to me than a 2800 with a 3.5 unless the 2800 is a disc/drum car a disc/disc car is a wash to me. Although other classic cars get an elevation for originality here I see a better model with BMWs which is keep it factory but true to the BMW theme (Paul Cain). As other classic cars thrive on originality our beautiful coupes have some what escaped this wormhole in my eyes. Corvette guys are nuts to the point they want "factory flaws" to be attempted to be reproduced. I love originality but to the point of recreating flaws to look original seems like craziness. They are original only once.
Total = $32k +/- 30% based on pictures

These are just my opinions and thoughts and I am looking for a discussion here and I think this is a good car for comparison. I am not trying to offend anyone nor challenge them again just my thoughts. Thanks

Oh do not take my list too seriously, you know the car better than me.
It was just for entertainment while we wait for the actual pictures and price.

Looks like there are additional + on ownership/stewardship to add.

Good luck!

When I see Arde name on any listing I have to open to read his thought on the matter at hand.
Note: I had to go though with a pencil -4+3+2+2+1+6+2-1+3-1+1-1-1 Priceless!
