The lack of attention to detail suggests that whomever buys this thing will be working on it a lot. Loose bolts, cut chassis, who knows. :)

I would call it speculation - yes.
Not really 'baseless' though by me as well...
Looking at the rough edges on the car, and just the lack of any real detail in the description... Red flags are all over the place on this one...
As always YMMV and Buyer Beware. Both very much in play here.

Why not just buy an e39 m5?
Same drive train, weight is very close, wheelbase is very close, sedan is easier to get in and out of, and there are nice ones out there for a lot less than $38k. Most importantly, an M5 would be much easier to maintain.
