Went to put down passenger side front power window this morning. Made a sound like running and "clink" sound at end, but the window did not move. At first I thought I just pushed the wrong window switch. But tried a few times again- always the same. All others work.

So I left driving and shortly after noticed the window had fallen a couple inches. Parked for a couple hours and went I came back the window was completely down. Tried window switch and no sounds what so ever.

Suggestions 1st before going inside door-including suggestions on removing down panel, clips, etc., and what/where to fix/get parts.

Thanks
John

sounds like a stripped omega gear- you need to remove your door card and take a peek inside.

The window regulator probably went kaput. Believe new ones are still available, albeit pricey. Your best option would be locating a good used unit.

Removing the door card is quite easy. All the screws are on the door handle assembly, with one hidden screws inside the top chromed plastic cap. Also, remove the 2 screws inside the ashtray and the single screw that attaches the door opening lever. IIRC, the vent window knob does not need to be removed. Now carefully pry open the door card that is clipped with a number of plastic door clips. Breaking the clips us no biggie (get some new clips), but try not to damage the fragile door card.

I need to go into my passenger door window regulator also, though for different cause.

It seem to me that the plastic clip on the end of your regulator arm has failed (this is somewhat from memory with my neighbors Benz). It's not a difficult fix. Do be careful not to damage the door card. If it is FU for any reason it can be replaced by some 1/8" mahogany or other plywood as I have done on the driver's side.

Might have a bind in the window guides or the motor gearbox if it is still running the original sardine-can motors. Gotta get the door card off and have a look to be sure.

Thanks for all info. Anyone have a picture of door card plastic clips before I pull it. I've got a few different types of the little tree ones.

If you are carful removing them they can be reused. You can slide a finger around the edge and feel where they attach, then work a finger into both sides of it as you gently pop it off.

I also have a passenger window issue as well. However, when you press the passenger window switch,it is totally silent with no movement. What steps should I take before attempting to remove the door card, if at all ?

Run a 12V wire directly to the window switch wires and see if the motor moves up and down.
If you have the old style motor at the window switch there is one contact wired to one direction of the motor and the other diagonal contact is the opposite direction, ground does not go through the switch so you cannot short anything by trying. Free advise means I am not liable if I am wrong and you burn some wires.

If it is silent in both directions then the ground inside the door is disconnected, if it silent in one direction then one cable in the harness thorough the door hinge may be broken.

When you connect 12V to the motor make it brief, if the motor or mechanism is jammed there is no point in running high current through it for more than a split second.

If you prefer a safe approach just use an ohmmeter to check the motor continuity at the window switch instead of 12V. You should read low resistance to ground from both diagonal switch contacts. Do not put the ohmmeter on the 12V contact unless you disconnected the battery or you can fry the ohmmeter.

OK, everything fixed. No parts required, as the lever just slipped off the window guide track. Really easy fix, but as with most, required patience getting back in guide with the spring, plus two people really helped. One to hold window and move/run window on power up or down. Removing door card simple-thanks to all the help provided here on the forum !
