Every time the "marina" was on screen, we wondered how it was done... your photo sorta helps, but since you were there please explain?? Vinyl?

Interesting track, before the virtual ride-along I was convinced it was gonna be Mickey Mouse, but pleased by it's technical challenge. Looks fun.

Well, I have to confess that I never made it out to the marina area. I was there the weekend before the 2019 F1 race in November to attend a family wedding In Dubai. We spent a day in Abu Dhabi, one of the stops was the track and a visit to the Yas hotel where we were drinking on the roof deck that has great views of the track And harbor.

I wanted to go, but the tickets were so expensive! 750 for a mediocre seat on Sunday on stubhub. Were you able to buy yours at face value in advance?
My buddy who was there said it was hot. How bad was it?
The track was far better than I expected.

Yes, very HOT. Yesterday was a record 94 degrees. Ticket was a present from my son in law!

I know it can be warm in Miami, but can you swim or boat on vinyl covered wood?
Why is everything plastic nowadays, including water....

Sometimes I'm just appalled by what people come up with. Where has the sense of style gone?
Initially they discussed a street course in downtown Miami, onto an industrial/port island and back--no fake water needed. But I guess they couldn't get that done, so they settled for a road course in the parking lot of a stadium that is nowhere near the ocean.

They need to schedule this event for April and then follow it up with Las Vegas in 2023. Keep Texas in the fall. (I know what I would do if I ran the zoo).

Miami deals are all done behind closed doors by monied individuals with the most political clout. In this case the owner of the Dolphins and Joe Robbie stadium. Track surface was a bad joke and the tight section needs to be revised..at least thats my take. Oh and drop the silly helmets for the podium! Like they were trying to one up Texas and the cowboy hats. Rant over...

Miami? Corruption? Surely you jest...

My friend worked all 3 days as a greeter at one of the main entrances. Big crowds from all over the world. I had an affordable secondary market grandstand ticket for Friday for $143.00. I just wanted to see the entire venue, which you could do with just a grandstand seat ticket. The F1 deal was a Campus pass for $300 on Friday and $400 Saturday with no seat. I got my ticket confirmation from the seller and had to actually get the ticket from Ticketmaster. I tried to log on only to find that my 10 year old password was no good. Over 3 hours of phone calls and trying to log in to Ticketmaster and no ticket even though I paid the ticket agent. I didn't go and the story gets worse from there. I know nothing about F1 ,but know if they do it again,it ought to occur in the winter since the tires could not stand the heat according to the guys on TV.

Miami is miserable in the heat. Sitting in the sun in those bleachers with minimal breeze had to be tough. The beer sales must have been strong!

Took this from an article on why the Miami track surface didn't replicate other new venues that had superior traction and viability. Pretty much sums it up. Screw safety...it's the So Fla mafia running the game.

In terms of the composition of the Miami track surface, it is different to what is used at other F1 venues.

However, due to its location, there are strict government guidelines in place from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) which dictate that certain materials – some of which have to be local – must be used in the composition of any surfaces laid.

As David Woodward, from F1 track specialists R3 that helped lay the Miami track, stipulations placed on the venue were unlike anything laid down elsewhere.

"We had to use local materials, local aggregates, we had to use local asphalt companies, and we had to work within the requirements of the local FDOT and what they ask about their local materials," he said.

"So it was a pretty difficult brief in one respect because we had to come up with something that was maybe a little bit different from your typical F1 track.

"At an F1 track you have a much wider range of aggregates and asphalt materials, whereas here we were stuck with the FDOT material, and we were stuck with the local aggregate, so it was a lot more challenging in one respect."

Fascinating to see how the different design approaches played out, with Ferrari's superior downforce taking a 1,2 in qualifying but then Red Bull's superior top speed carrying the day in the end. Was disappointed that the improved form Mercedes showed in practice did not carry over into the race. A three way battle at the front would be great.

Hype was overdone. Hamilton commenting about how great it was to "crack" Miami was silly. New flash: F1 has run in the US before.

Surprised FDOT regulations cover race track surfaces. Track surface must have been pretty poor given the comments pre-race from Checo and others.

The helmet thing was silly. Unlike Stetsons in TX, football helmets are not unique to Miami.
