On one rear window; the rear switch works both up and down, but the front switch works only down. Faulty switch at the gearbox console or incorrectly wired? or something else??
Thanks,
Peder

The easiest means of testing would be to "switch the switches." If yours are the early style, that design was susceptible to dirt and corrosion. In many cases, along with the dirt, the dielectric grease hardens and can also impair switch function - not unlike the back end of the ignition switch. With care, they can be taken apart and cleaned. Of course you could always use a volt-ohmmeter to check for continuity/resistance at the switch and voltage at the wiring.

I have the same problem with the passenger window switch.
How do you take the switch apart to clean them?

From memory, you have to pry the chromed part that is visible from inside the car, off the black "box" below. There are little catches between the two which may break when you part company. The lower section may have to be epoxied back onto the chromed part.

Strongly suggest soaking in contact cleaner that doesn't dissolve the plastic or remove the chrome, then blowing them out with a sharp jet of compressed air, repeatedly.

Disassembly of switches is not for the faint of heart. Gluing them back together is no picnic either. Avoid disassembly if possible. BTDT
