FOLKS:

I fought tooth and nail but lost - I have to move back to NYC. (NOTE: I love NYC)

Anyone out there keep their coupe (or other classic) in Manhattan? Any suggestions? Yes - I know it's expensive. Yes - I know the east coast is humid. I just can't imagine a world where I can't go drive it on a Saturday...if even on dry Saturday 4 months out of the year.

Whatcha got?

keeping coupes in ny

Yes there are several coupe owners who are in the NYC area. Perhaps not too many who keep there coupes in manhattan. Indoor parking is on the costly side but with winters like this year a nice coupe will not be so nice for too long. Expect to pay 350-600 per month indoors in manhattan depending on neighborhood . I heard there is a classic car storage place in CT that is 300 per month and comes with a web cam so you can see your car when your not using it. they also offer detailing, service and pick up and delivery which might work if you are not going to use it that much. The roads are very ****ty in NYC and although my car is just a driver it does take a beating tooling around the city. Going upstate, NJ or even Long island is a better and more scenic driving experience. let me know when you get here and we can meet up. There are several tristate coupers who will be happy to take a drive with you for sure.
cheers,
Shorty

Thanks so much Shorty. I drive mine here in SF where the roads (in the city) are HORRIBLE (IMHO).

My friend was introducing me to the classic car club in Manhattan with the notion to store it there ala your recommendation in CT. I'd love the name of that place if you happen to have it handy. My biggest concern is having a secured/indoor spot where the lot attendants aren't moving it...EVER. Obviously great drives in the area are what will make it fun.

Cheers,
Michael

Sounds cheaper and more fun to fly back one week-end a month to San Francisco and drive it here.

Ahh, the joys of NYC living! I garage my daily driver (1990 Merc 300E, 154k miles) in Manhattan so the attendants can practice their demolition derby skills. So far, they have bought me three side-view mirrors and a new bumper. The coupe is kept in a secure detached garage which I rent in NJ-- park it myself, room for storage, tools, etc. You can usually find detached garages on Craig's List. As far as Manhattan, many of my friends park their classics at Pier 40, indoor storage, park it yourself, relatively secure. check http://www.pier40parking.com/. Good luck/

I am reminded of the parking garage scene in "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" where the two attendants had a little test drive. A great flic also. And it is not a real Ferrari that is toasted at the end. But a great scene and a great contemporary house. The scene is based on a guy who actually did keep his sports car in the living room.

Although we're not a solution for summer parking, we offer indoor winter storage at $150/month and we service lots of CS Coupes from the NYC southern CT area . . and NH is a great place for leisure backroad driving.

My coupe is in 24 hour attended garage in Brooklyn with a permanent spot, 10 minutes from lower Manhattan. Cost: $215 per month

We have a different problem here! 5 great Canyon Roads within 5 miles and PCH...

I love NYC but around here we have numerous different but very serious problems!

There are only 5 Amazing Canyon Roads within a few miles and you have to use PCH while being forced to look at the Pacific Ocean whenever you drive anywhere.

Then there is that damn Sun. Every stinkin day the same thing Sun! Then more Sun then More Sun... It is such a drag it never changes:cry:

Unless there is a fire storm and your house burns to the ground (happened). But at least I was never concerned about losing my house during the huge 6.9 Earthquake that hit 2 months later. Everyone else was in a panic but I was very calm. I was totally protected from Earthquakes by design. I never even thought about it for a second because I had no house just a large pile of ashes! That was my plan... Protect your house from Earthquakes but letting it burn to the ground first!

The Ferris Bueler house was real and designed by a famous Architect and was recently offered for sale.
