Does anyone have a source for aftermarket replacements (Boge, I think)? Apparently I have the only one left in the world on hold from Germany (along with a set of factory springs) but it doesn't do me any good without a second unit! Thanks!

Thanks Steve. Saw those but I'm looking for 33-52-1-113-758. I'll check to see if these are compatible...

And the 2002 will fit if you change the bushing.

So checked with PenskeParts; ALL rear shocks come up under part #33-52-1-113-758, and there's only one left in BMW's worldwide database. Tempted to buy it for that reason alone...

Seriously, there's got to be an aftermarket alternative to Bilstein that approaches the factory ride?

Apologize my ignorance, but what's wrong with Bilsteins ?
I have them on all of my cars and don't find anything wrong with them.

OEM were hydraulic and not as stiff as the gas filled Bilsteins.

Some have attributed this stiffness of the Bilsteins to causing premature shock tower failure on e9's.

Yes, I'd like to renew the rear suspension and wanted to move away from the Bilsteins already on the car. Don't like the ride at all. I'm used to stiffer suspension in my other cars, but not for the coupe; just personal preference. I have the original rear shocks but they were removed years ago. Checked them with my mechanic and while there's no sign of leakage they seem to compress a little too easily just by hand. BMW Germany showed two OEM in the database but when they actually checked the shelf there was just one. Not sure where to go from here...

Actually, that 697 # comes up as NLA, so this source might just do the trick. Will check with them in the AM. Thanks much!

If you have Bilstein Sports in the back I think they are inverted so easy to tell from normal HD version which I have and love.
