My passenger tilt adjustment knob pulls out to where the tilt adjustment will not work. If I push it in slightly, the back hook catches the bottom and the back of the seat will tilt back and forth correctly. My driver side adjustment knob is not loose and works correctly. How do I fix the passenger knob? Note both seats were removed by the upholstery shop to stuff the seat bottoms. The World Upholstery leather was installed by the PO's shop right on top of the horsehair & springs--not very comfortable until after this repair. Thanks, Drew

Gary--Thanks for the offer. I'll know as soon as we get the car back to the upholsterer to fix some other issues with the rebuilt door panels. They took the seats apart to pad the bottoms.--Drew

I believe there is a circlip that holds the knob in place. The cable that controls the seat looks like a short speedo cable as it is square shaped. The knob just has the square female portion so if the knob pulls out a bit, it may slip off the cable enough to be non-functional.

Drew, first, is the trim plate installed on the side of the seat where the lever comes thru (and the knob mounts to the lever). the lever goes thru the back shell and connects to the cable. the cable goes down the back edge of the seat ... thru a circular channel where there is a hook that attaches to the lock at the bottom of the seat back. when you pull the lever, it pulls the lock up, which releases it. so what is not happening is the lock is not seating properly ... which could just be a slight bend in one of the pieces. i believe, but i don't remember exactly, is whether there is a lock on both sides ... and i think there is. its been a couple of years since i took a seat apart.

Drew -- Another alternative is that the knob itself is broken. The knob has a small u-shaped metal clip inserted into the plastic and it is this clip that fastens tightly to the lever. Sometime the force of removing the knob causes the clip to separate from the knob, and if the knob is put back on without the clip it will not seat tightly on the lever. Remove the knob and look inside. If you don't see the metal clip and you see a crack or two in the plastic inside the opening, replace the knob.
