It is actually an air filter for a Csl.

I also rebuilt mine with motorbike technology, oil dampened sponge. I can’t imagine that many of these get changed or even noticed if damaged.

DeQ, as SF Don says, it’s for a CSI, but here are some more details.
It is the air filter for the extra air on cold start of a CSI. So it should only be used for a few minutes on each start up. The main air flow is still through the main air filter.

The guts of my air slide fell out years ago. The supplier uses tape to hold the filter element inside the housing which fails easily. So I retrofitted a small oil breather filter from a parts store in the housing & peened the edges to hold the filter in. Works like a charm & looks 100% stock.

That one belongs in a place of honor.
