Howdy all,

My VDO oil temp drain plug sender (VDO #323-066, M22 x 1.5) finally arrived so I can finish my oil change and hook up my oil temp guage.

FYI: Been told these larger VDO senders are NLA! If your lucky to find one, I was very, suggest ya buy it!

So I have two questions:

1) Oil capacity for a M30 3.3L = 6-7 quarts correct?

2) Are some oil dipsticks specific to certain pans or motors?
- My old 2.8L's pan didn't have the baffling like my 3.3L's pan, but its dipstick was alot easier to reinstall and get a good level read, my 3.3L's stick is a bit frustrating and I'm not sure if I'm getting an accurate level check.

TIA

Oil level-dip stick-etc.

Following drain and filter cartridge replacemet have always re-filled all
M-30's with 6 U.S. quarts--then check level--Fire up and check for any leaks--shut down if none and let sit for a few minutes.

Check level on dipstick again and if on the line you're OK--if below top off and as long as you use the same dipstick you know your motors correct capacity. Usually the 6 quart change with fresh filter will be about right on. This has held true for the 2.8, 3.0, 3.2 and 3.5 liter motors that I have had.

Others nay have had different experiences.

Shanon,
There are differences in the dipsticks of various M30's. Be sure the one you have reads full based on the oil capacity as listed in the owner's manual. If not, either re-mark the dipstick or try another.
