Does anyone have any input as to the best oil cooler kit for the 1990 m30b35 engine? (fitted to e9)
Would the m6 setup, or the e12 m535i setup work?
Would the issue mentioned below by another member be a problem?

"""on your oil pressure issue, I just learned that there are three different gaskets that were used where the oil filter housing meets the block. You can see them in the attached image. Some of the later 3.5 blocks have a passage back to the crankcase for a pressure relief valve in the housing. The only way to tell is by looking at the block itself. If someone used the wrong gasket, you end up with an internal oil leak. Also, if you use the early style housing on a later block you need to plug the passage or it never develops full oil pressure. Carl Nelson at La Jolla Independent was explaining this to me yesterday and has the plug if you end up needing it. Mine ended up being the older style (my block is an '85), but I was happy to learn about the differences for future reference. """

Thx Mike

The heat exchanger is really a matter of fit and location. The stock BMW HE used on M cars should work, as would the slightly different but equivalent HE from an e23 745i. There are any number of aftermarket HE's available, check out Summit Racing for some options.

The easiest way by far to connect the HE to the engine is with the factory filter canister that has the oil line connectors built in. Source cars are the same, M cars and the 745i. If you go with a BMW HE, you can use the factory lines, otherwise you'll need to have lines made with appropriate end fittings.

Regards the variations in gaskets and the filter cannisters, I'd say you'll just have to compare and make the appropriate mods. I've got bottom bolt, top bolt and oil cooler filter cannisters in the garage, but I've never compared them. I swapped the filter cannister on my e9 engine (a 1969 vintage 2.8L) from the original bottom bolt cannister to a top bolt cannister from an e28, and it didn't affect the oil pressure at all.
