Oil pan on a s38

M5dCs – are you using a S38 from an E34 M5 (S38B36)? Your sump is much further forward than the mine.

rb1971 - which pan are you using?

I believe if you use the pan from the E28 M5 or E24 M6 (S38B35) you do not need to make the modification to the swaybar mounts.

Here are pictures of each to compare.
1st picture is the E34 M5 (S38B36) and the next is the E28 M5/E24 M6 (S38B35).

s38

Yes mine is a s38b36 from a euro 89 M5, same as a 91 here in the states. The S38B36 also has some problems with the cooling system hitting the radiator at the thermostat housing. I'm working on that next, so I'll let you all know when I get that problem solved. If any of you are interested, I have done a big brake Conversion on this car also, but maybe that should go into a separate thread. Thanks, Leroy

More go should definitely have more whoa so YES, I’d certainly like to read about what you came up with on the brakes. I really like your sway bar solution…….. a little ingenuity with some fabrication thrown in instead of some mega bucks solution. ~ John Buchtenkirch

I use e28 oilpump and pan and s38 tensioner on my s38b38 in E3

It doesn't have to be M88 or s38 just regular M30 stuff.

Works fine!
