oil pump gear orientation

when reassembling my 72 m30 oil pump one side of the round (stator?) part has a large dot machined into the part. The part appears to identical on both side(except for the dot) when installed over the center vane part. Is it possible to make a mistake installing it upside down or right side up?...thank you for any responses

Mmmm.. not sure, could just be a part designation. The clearances are the most important part ( blueprinting the pump.) I don't recall a taper. SF Don might very well know.

Look for the relief vent though. The last detail so your warning light goes out fast- pressure builds faster.

I have never taken a pump apart.
I was told by the guy who taught me to wrench to never mess with a big six oil pump.
