Hi everyone,

Quick question on the oil pump. I noticed there is no gasket on the 3.0L CSI engine I have with me. The BMW part manual states that 0.1mm or 0.3mm metal plates may be used, if needed.
Am I ok to reinstall the oil pump without gasket?
How can I know if a spare 0.1mm or 0.3mm plate is required?

Thanks for the help guys!

Have a great day!

PS: I tried to look for a thread dealing with this but the search engine of the forum automatically remove the word "oil" from my search... If there is already a thread about this, please feel free to move my post.

There is no gasket. The shim plates are used to adjust the oil pump drive chain tension. In my case, the original engine used a 1mm shim and I found that to be adequate when I re-installed with a fresh set of gears & chain (pump drive gear, crankshaft gear and chain).
