Oil temp/pressure gauge

The recent red coupe on Bat had an oil temp/pressure gauge in place of the clock. I’ve never seen one before. Was this an option? Are they available?

that is a fascinating piece of job,
you can see the depressions on the original fuel level and water temp that was used to make this DiY
original ?
 
This was discused on this forum a few years ago. IIRC it uses Porsche gauge guts.

I think it is very cooland way more useful that the stock clock.

I like the idea and if DQ makes a batch of these instruments I would be first in line.

On the linked thread I do not see the problem, I understand the sender has dual outputs: a "switch" style output for the oil light and an analog output for the gauge.
At no pressure with contact ON I expect the pressure switch to be ON (and low resistance analog) so I can see that the bulb works before starting the engine
and the entire circuit is connected. By analogy the gauge should read maximal pressure. When I start the engine the light should go OFF (high resistance) and the gauge somewhere in between (a bit higher resistance). If the circuit is powered after the load shedding relay then both light and gauge are inactive when engine is OFF.

Not sure how helpful oil temp really is. I 'd rather have a volt gauge instead.
That’s a good point.

I use O-temp to tell me when I can push the motor hard, usually waiting to see a minimum of 120 degrees before I use it to red-line. And I easy up on the throttle if goes over 210. It that’s not very useful for street driving.

Maybe a EGT would be better (as an indicator of combustion state)?
 
i'm with Rob ... i like Bo's with the electrical / oil pressure. i also like that he has used white needles instead of the red ones on most Porsche gauges. i like the late 90's porsche combination gauges from a visual perspective,

since i have 2800cs gauges, with the off-white numbers, the 928 / 944 gauges don't work visually ... although i guess i could do something custom ... or switch to 3.0cs gauges. hmmm ... something to think about. i would love to do a custom console / ac panel - moving the clock with a ring fan switch like the e12 uses.
 
I had an oil temp gauge, I didn't find it useful for street driving, swapped it for volts, it promptly saved my hide indicating a failing battery. Oil pressure and an accurate water temp gauge are my others, very helpful.
 
completely agree Steve. i have an oil temp gauge on the 911, along with accurate water temp and oil pressure. rarely look at oil temp, except when i am thinking of jumping on the throttle - just want to make sure the oil has warmed up ... and that is once in a blue moon as once its warm, everything is just fine. in an old car, with old wiring, i like the idea of a volt gauge. until i ever do something custom, i am going to go the route like you have in lieu of the speaker.
