I saw this new G82 parked in the lot when I was running errands. Thought it would be nice to contrast the grills. What started out as a comparison of grills turned into a bigger question.

I thought backing into this isolated spot may draw some interest from the driver sitting in the car. No acknowledgement. Got out took a few pics, still the driver had his head buried in in phone. I went into the store did my shopping, came back still head down looking at phone. Got in my car and left...still never looked up. Maybe he was looking at pictures of E9 on his phone?

If I remember right, BMW offers these hideous grills because they believe there are car guys out there who want edgy vehicles that command your attention.

I've driven one of these at M School, and they are very competent vehicles. But I wouldn't be seen in public driving one.

My bet is that the other driver isn't even aware of what an E9 is. I see this with some "new model" Porsche folks and my 914. Not a spark of recognition or acknowledgement. IMO, they just aren't hard core car people. They simply don't know the brand history. Nothing wrong with that. Just interesting.

Fugly, unfortunately they are catering to their bigger markets, Asia in particular. I think BMW has the ability to dictate and control customer tastes. Bling is not necessarily better, less is often more. Make it naturally sexy (Ferrari) don't make it Beverly Hills sexy:

Your picture does, however bring fond memories of happy times at Halloween...wax wowie whistles, wax lips, fangs, and wax fingernails for my girlfriend...when we were...eleven or twelve? About the time the NeuKlasse came out...

It's the same styling exercise we saw with watches. They were getting bigger and bigger (44mm-48mm-50mm!)and existed for people that would do anything to be noticed. A status symbol... Look at me! I'm rich bitch!

Yes agreed. Car people and people who have cars. I think many people when they go to the BMW dealership they just want the most expensive model. was in the palm springs area last week drooling over a a new M6. As I was looking at it a women came out from shopping. I said nice car, she reply "I guess". I am 100% sure she has never launched it

When I see 7 guys fixing one pothole I say to myself "How can we let this happen, everyone knows this is wrong"...........and I thought the same when I saw the new BMW grills!
