In 1970, fresh from Vietnam, I was assigned to Germany. Looked at Porsche, but the new 2800 caught my eye (remember, at this time BMW was best known as a motorcycle company and the 2002/ti/tii had just been introduced. I bought it and traveled extensively across Europe every chance I had. Brought it back stateside and was having the "cool king" AC mod done, when the shop in Dallas caught fire and a steel beam cut my jewel in half, then burned. Fast forward to January, 2011...looking for a new car and nothing lit my fire. #1 Son, a vintage Ferrari owner asked, " So, Dad, what was your favorite car of all time (I had owned quite a few exotics)?". Then started a three month search ending with Chris Keefer in LaJolla. Long story short, I bought the 3.0CS through Chris; they had maintained it for eleven years; had done the 3.3 fuel injection conversion and most of Carl Nelson's mods. Planned on driving it no more than 4K per year, but it quickly became my daily driver. The nostalgia element (admitted) soon passed and now it is simply the sweet handling that lights my fire every time I drive it! I'm a nut, no question...
