So, I did a thing, got an offer I could not refuse.

74 CSi Ceylon, matching numbers, sunroof, black leather. There is rust but nothing more than the usual I think. It's been sitting in a garage for a lot of years.

Now, no more cars, am broke :) Just sit back and wait for Miklos to do his magic, it will go bare metal and then put back together again. I do like that it looks like I can reuse most of the interior, even keep the original leather if I am lucky.

Have to figure out where to keep them.....

And back to an old question, is this Ceylon Gold? Are there two Ceylon? Anyway, I will try go for a color like in the pictures.

If that car was in the UK, it would be broken for spares!!!

Good luck with the resto .. going to need the luck lol

A rusty Ceylon e9 and a rusty Inka Tii...great pair; what fun! I think only one Ceylon color. You see many variations from repaints, UV fade, and the fog of war.

The 2002 is not mine, it is just where it was stored before I sent it off. The color is tricky but I do want something like this, will look great next to the Baikal.

The car does not seem too bad actually, I did not inspect myself but someone who knows the cars did. Looking behind glovebox etc, there was no visible rust. But Miklos takes it apart anyway and it goes bare metal so we will really see, new fenders are not that expensive in the scheme of things. My inka project looks worse.

The Ceylon, sunroof, matching numbers, original leather combination does motivate spending a few bucks on it.

Thanks for sharing the pics, it's shocking to see the rust come through those fenders from the inside out. I've seen it in so many cars and in my garage and it still shocks me. No guessing where the firewall is behind there.
Hope your gamble pays off, must be fun.

I suppose one man's rust bucket is another man's opportunity. If you have easy access to Miklos, then this could be that opportunity.

One serious question I have regarding using, Miklos. And I realize without seeing the car in person, it's very hard to get an accurate number but a ballpark estimate would be interesting. What do you think it would cost to have this chassis done by Miklos??

I would rather let him answer that, don't want to type out what I might pay. Do you mean only chassis, all rust fixed, painted and ready? Or front and rear suspension as well, or or? It will also depend on which parts are needed as he manufactures some and some not. With a clear question I can ask him what to reply or he can come in and reply.

Well, I was under the understanding that he focused just on the chassis and didn't get into the paintwork. I was really referring to the chassis restoration itself.

No, no. It is end to end. Browse and see, he has three painters now i think.

Super cool car with a lot going for it; CSi, Ceylon, sunroof, headlight wipers, leather, and power front windows & power mirror. From the photos, the rust looks pretty bad. It's going to be very expensive to fix it correctly but with the color and all those goodies - it will be worth it.

I am all for saving as many Coupes as possible. I admire your willingness & resolve to save this CSi. Please send the VIN to [email protected] if you have not done that yet.

Also, please start a restoration thread so we may follow the progress of this resurrection by Miklos.

I will add the three new projects, and do a thread for each. First 1-2 months may be slow as he is finishing other projects and it is mostly preparing.

Thanks, it will look well with the others. Baikal, Taiga, Inka :)

But I am little surprised everyone here sees it as a rustbucket, is an untouched E9.... There are many worse out there. But we will see when it's been wetblasted. Miklos manufactures a bunch of parts and a lot is available from Walloth. I of course have money for that in the budget. The approach is basically to make it bare metal, cut off all the bad stuff and replace. When done in an industrial manner like he does it gets pretty efficient. Very different from someone figuring it all out in his own garage.
Also, it is complete, chrome and interior are quite good. Way harder to fix some of that than some rust.

Overall, looks hopeful.
Other than the scary front left fender.
The wood looks good as do the door cards and seats
That sunroof wind deflector must go! And I would opt for different wheels all around.
Is the tool kit complete?
I agree with Vince, a lot of nice parts, headlight wipers, power mirrors, CSi Sport steering wheel.

Awesome! Did you pick this up in Europe? Just curious what country it came out of?

Miklos, from a few years ago at least, was charging something like €40k for a bare-metal/rust out repaint. Not including assembly of everything else. Probably higher now to incentivize him to keep working (he was wanting to retire before).

Ceylon can look awesome, but maybe add some pearl for it to POP!

Yes, fender is bad but Walloth will supposedly have them soon which would solve that. Agree on deflector and wheels, I'll be happy to take suggestions for the wheels.

Yeah, all three new projects came out of Sweden. A Swedish member here is working on digging them up :) I took three with rare colors (Inka/Taiga/Ceylon) and others have gone to other owners.

If it would cost what you say the car should still be worth more than I will have spent when done. It will be like new, or better, but with proper rust protection :)

I am planning to keep all the cars fully stock but tinkering a little with this color is tempting, would like to go a little more towards gold. But keeping stock is for good and bad, 5sp and 3.5 conversion add a lot to them in terms of drivability. All in the eye of the beholder I guess. Maybe should put it up for a vote here?
