The other day as I was moving cars around to get Athena out to run errands, I got her out and parked her in the driveway as I always do with the car I'm going to use. I put Vern in the garage walked out and Athena was not where I left her! She had rolled across the yard and into the woods. After considerable swearing and some phone calls we were able to get her out.

Luckily she's scheduled to go to Mario Langston's shop for A-pillar repair over the winter, now there's a little more to do…that's what insurance is for.

looks like Athena got the "driveway" and the "parkway" mixed up. Super glad it was just a flesh wound, she's a beautiful automobile!

Whew! Sure could have been a lot worse.

Now I know why I just finished rebuilding my emergency brake system.

Deepest sympathies!

Never like to see such pictures. Could be a lot worse though

Andrew, very sorry to see the photos and hear of the incident. Good think it wasn't a big ravine or cliff. Fortunately, we Mario around to help us with life's little incidents.

Hard to tell with the lighting, but are those my bumper mounts for the '74 car? If so, did they help limit the damage? Or not?

Same thing happened to me a while back but car rolled down driveway across the street and stopped against the curb, no damage, with car cover still covering the coupe. Had to look pretty funny!

Don't think they're your bumper mounts. From what I can tell the car was moving slowly, air dam hit a rock and the nose and bumper hit the tree.

If you look closely you can see the 73 and earlier rubber "grommet" in the valance. It's a stock or close to stock small bumper mount.

Did Mario do it?

That is what happens when we name our cars, they think they are more than machines and develop a will to escape. I would stop calling her Athena until I know she will not try to escape again.

Glad it wasn't worse!

These cars are so delicate, one false move and it's a real (costly) bummer.

Last year I was working on the carbs and forgot I had it in reverse. I reached in through the window to start the car and it did - and it took off backwards out of the garage with my arm hooked in the door and dragging me with it. I had a millisecond and one chance to reach back and get to the key to turn it off, fortunately I did and it came to a stop literally 2 inches from hitting the wall of my house. I felt sick to my stomach soon thereafter once I realized I dodged the coupe reaper.

I still have nightmares of the incident!

Andrew,

there are many good things that happen - this ain't one of them. except, it will give you more money to spend with Mario. i think the grilles were damaged too. oh look, you need a new nose too.

hope the repairs work out for you
