Why does the e9 have such a funky design of the exhaust tip ? Did all e9s have this ? Does it alter the sound ?

On a similar note, I've been trying to find a nice tip. My Coupe has a crap exhaust on it, and the tip is nasty. I haven't found something that's not part of a whole exhaust.
If pony up and buy a new exhaust, but my Coupe fund is low at the moment.

Here is another option for the whole pipe from the rear muffler back. Eliminates the need for a separate tip. I still have a few left.

If you want just the unpolished pipe without the welded tab and hardware - $150 + shipping. You can use the ring clamp off the old pipe to attach the rubber hanger to (although you can see that rusty piece).

you can buy the rear pipe from bmw, and a chromed tip
diameter is 55 mm for a 2800 cs

If only we could talk to the engineer who came up with the design. What is the rationale behind it. Why don't you engineer types come up with some ideas as to why ?

I've never thought it looked funky, it's a standard design across many BMW models not just coupes, if you are talking about the rolled edge that is.

To add one bit of info to this thread, I was looking for this exhaust tip and it looks like rogerstii has it available. It says it is the same as for for the '02 turbo...

55mm is 2800CS, 3.0CS is 60mm, it's a press on fit.
