I’m curious how many members, have the original leather seats, in their E9s.

Were a lot of vehicles sold with the leather seat option? And how common/rare is it, to see E9s today, with original leather seats (not in poor condition)?

Thanks

most USA models (2800cs / 3.0 cs) came with leather seats. no idea how many still have original seats ... i have seen quite a few.

Thanks Scott.

I’ve seen a lot of new leather seats, a few new cloth seats. Very few original cloth & original leather.

Obviously I’m new to this, so wanted the kind of feedback you provided - Thanks again!

Very rare to see original leather seats after 50 years. The issue is the horsehair pads wear out and causes the seats to sag.
Do people often re-foam (not sure if that’s the correct wording) them? Or, have they usually just gone with new leather? I could see a time when just going new leather would’ve made sense. I can also see the value of trying to re-foam them, in an effort to stay original/authentic.

I would have them but they were stolen from my back porch. Left then out overnight while I was reorganizing the garage. They were dry and pretty ragged, but I still would have preferred to keep them.

And the thing is. This happened when I was in Baltimore at a time where I had one of maybe 3 coupes in the city. I know the person who took them had no intention of putting them in a BMW. To this day. I still wonder where they ended up.

I have original seats and re-foamed the driver's side bottom years ago. I think the passenger is still on it's original horsehair, or maybe I did that too, not sure :)
Awesome - Would you happen to have a photo or two, to share?

ps: would love to see pics of any original leather seats, members have to share

Here they are (on my kitchen table of course  ) when I was touching up the dye.

When my coupe seats were rebuilt we put new burlap under the horsehair and added foam on top of that. My 2800 was parked in 1981 with 55K miles and sat in a garage for 34 years until I bought it. I was able to just restuff the driver seat as it sagged quite a bit but leather was great with a bit of wear.

I still have the original leather seats in my 70 2800 CS. The seating surfaces are in poor condition and were that way when I bought it in 1980. The head rests and back side of the seats are still in good condition. I just put some sheep skins on the front seats, and I recall putting a thin layer of foam on the driver side. They feel very comfortable to me.

I have investigated having the leather redone but have not been satisfied with what I have found. Nothing is similar to my tan leather which I think is called pig skin. So, I still have sheep skins and they have been replaced once.

Hi,

My car is from july 69 and the leather seats are original, of course without headrests. Refurbished 2 years ago.
