Hello everyone

I hope you all could give me your opinion to this matter.

The car thats in our possession is a 2800 CS.
Its currently a 4 speed and the color of the car is darkblue.

I looked at the Karmann Plate and noticed that the number isn't matching to the blue color. The code on the plate is actually 02.
I attached a picture of the Plate.

I then looked at the Backseats and noticed the color is a light yellow.
I also looked the inside of the door and all I could see was this light yellow color. I scratched the blue color away near the Karmann plate and noticed the yellow color aswell.
The pictures are uploaded for you to see. Sorry for the bad quality, it was quite dark when I took them.

The VIN is screwed on so it must have been removed once... or it's not the original to the car.

I contacted BMW Archiv asking information to the car as I don't have all documents since when it was produced.
With the VIN they told me it was then an automatic and the original color was colorado.

If it really was a colorado and an automatic, would it be wise to bring it back to it's original form? I never seen a 2800 csa in such a color before.
The interior is also blue, would that need to be changed to black if I did consider to change all?

So what do you guys think? Is this car a colorado colour based on it's VIN, or maybe not?
I hope you guys can give me your input to this, I'd really appriciate it :)

The best way to change back to Colorado is if you plan on doing a full bare metal paint then paint all the sills and doorjambs etc. to remove any vestige of the color change from the original. If the seats and door cards are good and you're not re-upholstering you might be able to dye everything black.

Colorado- yes...

Sure looks to be a Colorado 2800CS- I'm very biased but I would defiantly go back to Colorado. As far as the slushbox, tempting to go all original but with a "competition" color I'd keep the clutch and decide on how many gears you want to row.

Chris or others might know but I can't imagine there are too many Colorado 2800s around... don't think I've ever seen/heard of one. I always think of the 2800s as gentleman saloons in gentleman colors of the day.

-Nice find

I heard the VIN is written somewhere else in the Enginebay, but I do not know exactly where to look.
Could someone maybe describe where exactly to look for it?

Passenger side of the wall that separates engine from ventilation bay in front of winshield. Also, a stamped plate on fender 8 inches away.

Take it back to Colorado, awesome color but put in a 5 speed, it will enhance it's value.

+1 on the 5 speed (overdrive?)... Check the diff too- I'm gonna guess you have a limited slip. I'd be curious to know for sure.

I've checked the area you described Chris and found the exact same number.
Thanks for explaining :), now I'm certain it's a colorado color and that the VIN plate belongs to the car.

I heard that Colorado colored cars usualy come with a black interior, but this is based on 1972 an up.

I was wondering if the interior would also be black in a 2800 CS from 1970?
I couldn't find a Laufzettel behind the backseats.
The carpet is black but the seats and doors are blue.

Is there a possible way for me to find out other then the Laufzettel?

@E911
I will check it as soon as I can :)

Replacement VIN Tags are available and yours is wrong should be 2800CSA +Screws

They have replacement VIN tags available from numerous sources that are easily stamped and if your car was an Automatic then the tag should say 2800CSA... Also as you stated the tag has obviously been removed because they were riveted on and yours has two different type screws.

The interior colors were ordered by the buyer. If the buyer ordered the car with a horrible color combo like Verona red with a blue interior that was how the car was built. Also the material was optional (cloth,Vinyl or leather) for the seats...

He has already verified the stamped VIN, it matches and is consistent with a euro 2800 CSA. The VIN plates will not say CSA, they just say CS only.

Chris

This is what I found at that area. It matches the VIN plates number.
The last number you can't see clearly but it's an 8

this is an interesting car... Colorado colored CSA in euro trim? I'd be tempted to give it an early CSL treatment- especially if it has manual windows already.
