I just got my Feb Automobile mag (with R8 on cover) and the auctions list Bernie "the pig" Ecclestone's (who thinks the US does not deserve Formula 1)
BMW 507 (nice but not concours) that went for $893K - a record high price.

Of course only 253 made and these were BMWs answer to the 300SL.

While one might think the e9 would be next to be auction favs, if my e9 became really valuable then I might be reluctant to drive it - since I am not selling - who cares what the value is?

Temp hit 50 here in Baltimore a few days ago - took it out - popped the front grill and mounted my jhj grill badge and went for a nice drive.

I don't know how you can compare the E9 to the 507. The 507's were always meant to be upscale limited editions cars (made even more limited edition by their failure in the marketplace). While the E9 was produced by the thousands.

Remember the E9 was priced ahead of Porsche's of the day and even some Ferrari's yet it has yet to catch up with them in the collectors market.

Here is a good article:

I would never compare the 507 to the e9

I agree with the above comments. I was merely noting that the 507 prices were beginning to shoot up dramatically. I personally think the 507 is the most striking BMW (followed by the e9, e24, and Z8 in that order).

Again, I do not really care whether my e9 or M6 increase in value, but I have been surprised that XKEs and Porsches have increased much more than the e9.

I also realize that the auction market is a very bizarre and strange place - the upcoming Barrett Jackson auction will showcase over-restored American muscle that will go for 6 figures after costing relative peanuts (compared to European marques of the same vintage) when new. These cars even when not show cars are best driven only on a straight road.

Supply and demand my friend, supply and demand.
