I normally live in San Francisco, but am workign for the summer in The Hague. We have two free weekends this summer before we leave Holland in August and figure we probably will not be coming back up to Northern Europe for a while. We don't want to venture into "old" Europe (as Don Rumsfeld would say), as we plan to get our 1 or 3 series wagon next year on European delivery and will be in Germany and France then.

The criteria are (1) child friendly -- as our 5 and 10 year old are with us; (2) not too expensive to go to; and (3) interesting.

Thoughts?

Klaipeda on the Lithuanian coastline is beautiful and very kid-friendly - forests, canoeing, sand dunes, clean beaches, etc. Easy to rent a cottage near the beach for the weekend. Certainly fits the "cheap and interesting" requirement. You can fly in direct from Hamburg, and some other places on www.lal.lt

Suggestions:
Denmark - Copenhagen or the West coast there of
Norway - Oslo, Christensand
Sweden - Baltic coast
Finland - anywhere
Camping and cheap lodging available and one or two Coupe owners in that part of the world :D

Malc

you cannot go past stockholm - old town, boat cruise around and most importantly, the vasa ship museum (best museum anywhere, google finds it). there's an old prison converted to cheap hotel on longholmen that is excellent value for money.
