Since the snot Bernie Ecclestone is dissing the US this year we will be going to Montreal (a great city).

Has anyone hear gone before - which are best seats 15, 11 or 12? I presume, like Indy, higher is better?

Many thanks.

Montreal

I have sat in all of those sections and I prefer 12. I like to see (and hear) the start and you have a good view of them coming down the straight, turning in front of you and heading out. In addition, there is a nice screen to the right side of section 12 as you sit and look towards the pits. Also, after the race you can climb over the fence (everyone does) and head into the pits and see the drivers on the podium and the cars, etc. Very exciting and cool! My wife climbed over before me two years ago to see Alonso (before he became a weasel).

Last year a good friend of mine, who is not a F1 fan, accompanied another friend and had an all access pass and went to the party Saturday night before the race that was hosted by the creator and owner of Cirque du soleil. He came back with all of these photos of the drivers including, Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart and most of the current line up.

The Saturday night before the race, Montreal is something for a fan. Everywhere you look there will be many great cars and women. I think every Ferrari in Canada shows up.

I'll see you there!

Montreal F1

My brother and I last attended the Montreal F1 Grand Prix in 2000. Can't recalled what numbered section we sat at, but it was near the hairpin. Great seats as the cars are forociously accelerating out of that tight turn. Awe inspiring site and sounds from the Ferraris, McLarens, Bmw powered Williams to the second tiered cars such as the Minardis.

Race fans, if you've never attended a F1 race, do so, it is a wonderful experience that is much greater than a Cart race, never mind the minor league Indy Racing series. The only negative experience was exiting the race track as there is only one way in and out of the island. Try to imagine 100,000+ fans exiting the track and back into the only subway station that links the racetrack. The metro subway is the only transportation to this Venue.

Montreal is a great cultured cosmopolitan city with great dining, late, late nightlife and great sightseeings. Don't miss out on the fabulous downtown pre-race parties and festivals. It is great fun in participating in all the activities. French is the official language in Quebec but English is spoken by almost everybody. It is interesting to note when we were there, we found out at various times in the city's history, Montreal was a so called English city that was run by English speakers then to be overtaken by French speakers again. This occurred a few times as I've learned.

Montreal is perhaps the Greatest City in N/A. The comments about the culture, the architecture and food are spot on.....imagine it as a N/A Zurich or Paris....great place.

I attend every year . .
This past year for the near future we're in the Casino Hairpin, first row seats, trackside right at turn in . .just 20 yds from Kubica's car came to rest this past year

I prefer trackside . . in a location like this where you can observe the drivers inside the cars . . you see details that one never sees in F1

We've stayed in Laval, in a big hotel . . but will be staying intown . . so we have no need to use a car.
Montreal has a great subway, and lots of great entertainment, restaurants, women, parties and is a fun place on the eve of the race!

Agree and thanks

Thanks for seating suggestions. At Indy there is a high fence all around so sitting low has this interference.

Montreal is our favorite city in North America and one of the best in the world ("Paris without the jet lag" is one of their promotional slogans) - great food, great people, great jazz, great nightlife. It used to be quite inexpensive - but with the loonie being equal to the dollar and the Formula 1 factor (hotel rates can be double) less so.

So the cancellation of Indy (I hear it might be in Vegas next year) is not that bad. The people of Indianapolis and the Speedway owners could not be nicer, but Indy is no Montreal. It was fun, however, driving the M6 out to Indy (except for the Ohio speedtraps) and I might have taken the e9 this year. As a car club member you could park for free courtesy of the Speedway in a special car corral near the speedway filled mainly with Porsches, Lotuses (Lotusi?), Jags, and BMWs with only a few true exotics (Ferraris and the likes). Our M6 was the only pre1990 BMW in the lot and actually attracted a lot of favorable attention there and in town.

But, as mentioned, the public transportation is so good in Montreal, no reason to drive although the drive up through upstate NY is beautiful.

Many hotels, however, are already fully booked.

Thanks again to all.

Dates for Formula 1 Montreal

June 6, 7, 8 Montreal. I do not know what the format is in Montreal, but at the US Formula 1 in Indy there were some nice prelim races - especially the Porsche GT3 race.

Thanks,
Some of my Relatives live in Lake Placid and we have done "day trips" to Montreal before, takes about 4 - 5 hours

I attended in '05 and sat in stand #11.

The seats were very good but I too remember trying to decide if #12 would be better. I opted for #11 since the avail seats were positioned lower than in #12. I personally like to sit just high enough so I can see over the catch fencing.

For me, I think stand #12 on the side closer to stand #11 would be ideal if seats were not too high up.

With all of that said, I'd take any seat in the house - the party downtown is worth the price of admission!

Have fun!

Tom P - how high do you have to be?

To see over the fence? There are apparently 52 rows! More than at Indy.

Thanks.

Yeah, they are tall - I just like to be as low as possible without having to look through the chain link.

A friend of mine prefers to be high up for the widest view so it really is personal preference.
