My Chamonix coupe has black paint sprayed behind headlights and in radiator support. I thought this should be body color, anyone with a light colored coupe with original paint who can check?

That is correct for light colored cars, Chris. Not having the black paint there is a rookie restorer mistake.
My car, fjord, had that as well. Also on the visible part of the hinges.

I had heard that E3s were brush painted with satin black in the same place on the production line, so perhaps it was the same for E9s?
And if it wasn't original it should be. Light colored brackets and sheet metal behind any vehicle's grille area looks horrible. I don't know why it bothered me so much. LOL
It certainly looks sprayed and not brushed so I will leave it black. On the 2002 they left the sheet metal body color and only painted the hood hinge structure black with a brush.
Depending on the color, the black paint goes from the mid headlight buckets to the radiator & on the hood supports on '02s
Not on my 69 Manila 2002 they didn’t.
