Paint Shop Recommendation for SF Bay Area

Hey everyone, I've been using the search function, yet can't seem to find any info on a good, yet reasonably priced (I really mean "cheap" but I know better than that) paint shop in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have never had a car painted before, and am still in the bodywork/rust war process, but I'd like to get an idea for the future, as many shops I walk into in the city talk about months and months of waiting and $20,000 prices. F That... there's gotta be a better, cheaper way.

I will do all the bodywork myself, remove all trim, windshields, bumpers, etc and reinstall everything. Car was originally agave, was painted over in white, and I want it painted agave again. I don't need a concours quality paint job, just something decent enough to hide the rust for a couple months so I can sell it for big bucks. Ok, kidding of course, but I'd like a decent spray and I'd like to keep it under $6,000. This should be doable, right? Every single place I walk into around here is telling me 15-25k and there work doesn't even look that great, especially when its a bunch of mid 70s American iron with big chrome and a ton of metal flake; doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence.

Any recommendations? Ideally somewhere in Marin, Sonoma or SF, but I'll go to the East Bay, Peninsula, or even Sacramento if necessary.

Any pics? Paint is going to guzzle alot of that money. How does the metal look, some pics would give an idea how much will be needed to be done before paint.

No pics of where it currently is project-wise. Do you mean paint, physically as a material cost, will guzzle a lot of that money?

My Bavaria is currently at a shop in Sacramento called CaTuned. They do good work from a metal standpoint, but don't currently do paint. They've given me prices for paint from $7k-10k. It may be worth a shot to send them some pics to get an idea of price and go from there. You can look up their website or I can PM you their contact number.

Thanks for the responses. Yesterday I unearthed a major VIN issue with my car, unfortunately right after I ordered new pans from Mike Pelly. This project might be on hold, and I think I'll start another thread to discuss why.

Yesterday I unearthed a major VIN issue with my car, ...

Wow, speculation is rampant as to what the issue could possibly be:

- The VIN indicates you actually own a 1981 Toyota Celica, not a BMW.
- You posses a stolen car and the lawful owner is a Russian whose name begins with Vladimir and ends with Putin.
- A Carfax on the VIN shows the last oil change was done in Fukujima, Japan.

Pray tell?

There is a place in Campbell CA called Images Autobody. The owner is Dave Ferguson. He's really well known in the Jag world. I used to have E-Type Jags and I saw his work at a show, it's top notch. He seemed like someone that would be willing to work with you since you are doing rust and bodywork.

Just google Images Autobody Campbell CA
