Have to wait till I next get to the shed the car is stashed in to get its vin. No I've no idea ow many cars are in Oz (Australia)- partly cause I'm in New Zealand!, but even then i've no idea how many csl's are in this country - I know of 1 other and have heard of possibly a third....so that's at least 2 or 3. So if you're counting would assume more. vague I know. cheers, Bryce.
Interesting info to note about the 2285xxx CSLs is the following:
The first RHD CSL (2285001) is located in USA and the last one (2285500) is in Australia. There are three RHD CSLs with sunroof and the 2285016 (in USA) is converted to LHD.
At present, about 285 of the 500 RHD CSLs have been traced.
Hi,
It is City Pack Verona Red that was manufactuered on September 29th, 1972.
It still is that colour and with still the usual CSL equipment( aluminium doors, bonnet, boot, schnell seats and Petri wheel plus 2 sets of Alpina wheels )
I really love driving my car and it never fails to get fantastic comments every time I take it out.
Another interesting fact, about another Verona RHD CSL, is that one is supposed to have been originally delivered with a 5-speed gearbox from the factory.
You are perfectly right. I have re-checked and the first RHD CSL (2285001) was delivered in the colour Ceylon. It was owned by Nigel Wood of London's CSL centre in 1980 and had the UK registration plate "72 BMW". There is a picture of the car in the Car Magazin "Old Motor" issue October 1980.
Another interesting fact is that the famous actor Sean Connery owned a RHD 3,0 CSL. Frank Hedley was the owner late 1980 and the car was equipped with an Alpina front spoiler and had the UK registration plate "900 PH".
Anyone in UK who knows if the ex. Sean Connery CSL is still on the road?
Which make of windsplits did you use?
I bought a pair from Werner Hand. They are made of grey plastic/rubber compound which are impossible to paint AND mound with modern self adhesives (after priming it correctly).
I did not want to get the ones which require drilling mounting holes in the front wings/fenders.
My CSL never had them to start with, but I wanted a set, but refrain from the Batmobile rear wing and the one on top of the rear screen.
Günter bought them years ago on Ebay, they were used but in good condition, no holes, only adhesive tape !
He had a second pair on stock, made by Kamei, also without drilling.
Now they are MINE ! 8)
A little bit longer, thicker and higher than his...... more flashy
I will post some pictures, when i have mount them on my Orange.
