Part identification question. Metal tab at the back of the gauge cluster

Wondered about the same thing. I've seen it on all 4 gauge clusters i have.
Earth ground? Though not sure if it even sits against steel....

I have one in my 1972 as well. No idea what it is used for though.
I thought about the ground as well. But there are plenty of brown ground wires going to the cluster.

I have it on mine also , my speedo is dated 6.73 so June 1973.
I also don’t know what it is for and I also don’t think it even touches the metal framework of the dash .
I have attached a pic which shows where the gauge assembly sits , you can tell where the gauges sat by the 47 year old dust print.
