Part identification question. Metal tab at the back of the gauge cluster

Any idea what this metal tab is for? Back of the instrument cluster. Build date 10.73.

I thought about the ground as well. But there are plenty of brown ground wires going to the cluster.

But it’s the only thing that would make sense
 
I have it on mine also , my speedo is dated 6.73 so June 1973.
I also don’t know what it is for and I also don’t think it even touches the metal framework of the dash .
I have attached a pic which shows where the gauge assembly sits , you can tell where the gauges sat by the 47 year old dust print.B023D499-6667-4DDF-A773-AF493F1037B3.jpeg
