I’m not sure what year the orange car is but I presume it is the CSL that was all but destroyed.

I’ll throw in my observations. Miklos is the expert as are others on the forum. The next step in both of these cars is to add the triangular shapes vertical support structure. The outer wall of that support piece has an access hole to the area that I like to call the “fender box”. On a complete car you can stick your hand between the fender and the “fender box” and snap pictures inside that access hole.

The fender is surface mounted to that smooth bulkhead piece that the hinges mount to. In the second (orange) picture, there is almost no space between the fender mount and the “fender box”. I don’t know how you could slip your hand through the narrow space that is left. The orange one looks odd to to me. The odd thing about the first picture is that the lower portion of the “fender box” protrudes to the point that it will interfere with the triangular shaped vertical support piece. They both look a bit off.

Mark,
You are right.
Although in your pic#2, the piece with the triangle Window doesnt look right either. It curves up at the end and leaves a large gap behind it. Also the bottom part is angled instead of curved, looks quite different. You first pic seems most accurate.
The orange piece seems so filled up with sealant and layers of paint that the subtle curves are lost.

Hello Folks,
This is from April of this year!
W&N pieces!

I noticed that also. The whole thing looks kind of stubby.

Perfectly illustrated and what looks to be well executed. I presume that he plug welded the bottom portion of the triangular plate to the bottom part of the “fender box”. That would explain why he drilled those holes in the triangular piece.

Yes Markos, that is why I listed that photo of him drilling the holes. As much as possible for 99% ofthe plug welds we drilled the new and or old pieces with special bits and plug welded them we kept as much as the rusty pieces to know and plan where the plu welds go. That is if both pieces were rusted we would know how many and where to plug weld.

Absolutely love the scale of this thread. Drilling down (no pun intended) on the correct install/alignment of a portion of our cars. Thank you for posting and commenting!

BMW made two different strut tower braces. The rectangular part that is perpendicular to the strut tower brace will hit the inside of the fender if you install the wrong one.
