Just throwing this out there.
I used to use Penske BMW to look up parts numbers using the diagram/drawings for the E9 and other BMW's.
I did not buy from them.
Some others on here used Tomkinson and of course Realoem.
There are probably more.......... but not many.
Many of these are gone now and Realoem is one of the only ones left.
I use Realoem now because I'm use to the format (same as Penske) and the quickest way to see a diagram and make sure you get the correct number.
I have to be careful with correct numbers because my dealer gets very touchy about sending any parts back especially if they came from Germany.
I've actually had to eat a few parts from not having the correct number. My fault of course.
Now this only matters to the guys actively working on their cars.
If some shop is doing it it's there problem.
I ordered some bump stops for the trunk the other day as I am working on a restoration and I find things as I go along.
I ordered 4 and needed 2 because if it's a cheap part I will trade to friends or sell for cost.
I ordered 4 bump stops and got 4 but they are the ones for the hood that screw in and are adjustable. Not the rear ones that push in a hole to hold them. I checked the number and I was correct but I guess this is BMW's substitution process.
This happened with the rear trunk wheel covers. Ordered 2 and 1 was correct and other was just a piece of foam.
Went round and round with parts guy about part not being correct.
He finally realized and returned it to Germany.
So what I am asking is there something going on with the dealers not offering a way to look up part numbers back past 1980 what used to be listed as "classic" on the parts search engines.
Does anyone buy from Realoem? Their prices are very high.
Who owns Realoem and where is it based?
If it went away what would we use?
How about some feedback?
Gary
