...there’s a shock poking through! Ugh, that squeaking I heard turned into a clunking sound, so I looked in my trunk only to find that the shock appears to be coming through the shock tower. Anybody know what the washer looking thing is about? The way it has separated from the tower it looks like it was not welded on. And has anyone seen the small holes in the tower that are close to the larger opening? Is that supposed to be there? Anyone know how this area should properly be prepared.

Finally, does anyone have a body shop in southeastern Virginia/northeastern NC that they would recommend for repair. There are no old bmw restoration shops near me.

My guess is that the drill holes are the result of the welder's failed attempt to spot weld the large washer in place. Without seeing what's underneath, it's tough to tell.

The holes may have been an attempt to stop cracks from growing. It is a little weird no matter you look at it.

Thanks for the insight gents. Have located a couple of shops in my area that specialize in old cars and fabrication. Will report back.
