Anyone here use anything other than pump gas for their car? A friend informs me that with carbs, I need to be concerned about the possibility that any pump gas that goes unused in the gas tank for too long may separate into various constituent parts, some of which can become hygroscopic and reek havoc on the fuel lines and carbs when used.

Damnation -- I live in an ethanol saturation zone. I need to travel 60 miles to find ethanol free gasoline.

For my daily driver from point A to B (Audi) I use the cheapest possible juice. For my backup car (E9) she is always feed with +98 octane petrol.
That would be similar to the juice our vintage cars was feed by in the beginning :-)

Ahhh, but your 98+ dino juice is not (I don't think) measured the same way as gas is qualified in the USA.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in USA gas is rated as (R+M)/2, the average value of the Research Octane and the Motor octane. Euros use something different.

I work across the street from a station that advertises "Race Gas" and Ethanol Free, but I've not used either. Plain old 87 is what I buy, along with the vast majority of other consumers here in Hawaii, where we unfortunately had the highest US gas prices for almost ever, with a few months of exceptions. Euro gas prices are another matter totally.

Comment?

I have carburetors.
I use pump gas and when I know I am going to burn through a tank, I do not add anything.
Vbigdog recommended adding Lucas ethanol treatment or Seafoam as the bottle instructs when you know you will be parking the car for any period of time. Since I have started doing that the engine seems to run better.

I have carburetors and I use them every day. I pull in to the gas station and fill up the tank and don't think twice about the effect of the gasoline. It's worked like this for over 8 years now, so I think I'm just going to keep driving the Bav all over the place and not worry.

I use the 93 stuff in both cars, coupe with carbs, high comp, chipped FI M30 in the E28. If I remember (and that's big if), I'll add 4 Ozs of Marvels with a fill up. Some say its snake oil, but I swear the motors run better with it. Absolutely no data to back up that conclusion though.
