Photos of the Newbie's 1973 3.0 CSL

Hi Kevin,

Congrats on what looks like a fantastic car. Couple questions, though: Do you mind telling the group how much you paid for the car?

Also, if it was an Italian (Euro) car, when were the USA front side markers added?

Are you going to modify the car in any way??

Jonathan

Sup Jonathan,

More than 25K, less than 60!! If I was wanting to help the price of a CSL go where it should be, I would say 150K. So while on any talk forum it wouldn't do anybody any good to give that info out!! All-Though I think I stole it!!

The car was reported to be from Italy but I don't know for sure...just hear-say! I didn't think any were brought into the US...Leagally! Maybe when the car was repainted the owner wanted it to look like an Americain BMW? Like when were the seats removed and why??
I saw a video on the web that showed an owner poking the roof of his real nice CSL and you could clearly see the thin metal....boing-ing, down and up. I checked my car when wiping it off for the photos you see....boing- boing!
You can't do this with even a Lightweight RS Carrera! Score one for the CSL!

Scheel seats

Hi, congrats on your CSL. I have scheel seats in black leather if you are interested. Write me off line.

Nice jalopy. Welcome to the madness. Your VIN is only 25 away from mine, so they probably shared a night or two in Munich one early Spring day back in 1973.

Regards,
TJ

Oops............my bad, not 25 away, 325 away. It must be the lack of sleep, or errant GSM radio frequencies attacking my brain here in La Fira de Barcelona. I'm guessing your car is a 72 model year yeah? Either way, lovely example. Now get that thing out of the rain! = )

Hey TJ,
Thanks for the info...the Gentleman I bought it from said it was a 73'. I'm OG-ly from So Cal. The Cats is a cool place to live, I have friends there. Santa Monica is "The real deal" for car folks. Cruiz up PCH any Sunday and you will see every cool Sports and Muscle car ever made!

Ride on,
Kevin

Kevin,

I agree with you regarding Los Gatos, and Santa Monica is nice, but for driving roads the latter cannot compare with the former. You have to drive a good distance and put up with a lot of pain to get to good roads like Angeles Crest.

Now for car friendly weather, Southern California is fantastic, and you're right, the people there love their cars.

Regards,
TJ

My car was produced on January 16, 1973 and has a higher VIN than yours, i.e. I believe your car must have been produced in September or October of 1972 ... probably still makes it a 73 model though.

Mobile Tradition will tell you exactly on what date your car was finished.

Thanks for the info DJSimka,

My car is injected, don't 72's have carbs?

Hey Keshav, I e-maild you about buying your seats....did you recieve the mail?

Anybody know where I can get the plastic tool carrier under the deck lid? Mine is cracked and won't stay closed anymore.

The Scheel seats were removed sometime between Italy and California,
so I am needing a set of seats.

my toolkit was in rotten shape when i bought my CSi. peter s "coupeking" did the repair on mine. turns out that his family was in the plastics business. and it shows -- my toolkit looks brand new. contact peter for further details.

as usual, no affiliation blah blah blah.
