I purchased 2 of the post Roundels from Germany that were NOS. When I installed them I used new rubber groments. They slipped into position firmly without any undue force. A week later I noticed that the Black area at the 2 posts were chipped and cracked. The flaked area looks like a plastic material not cloisonne.

I then ordered 2 more from the dealer............ same thing happened.

Has anyone had the same issues? Any ideas?

Thanks,

pillar roundel...

Hi Steve, When I picked up my "bodywork done" car at Korman (Dec 07), it had two new ones installed. I noted that one had the aforementioned chip in the black glass. So we went inside and found the box of about a dozen that they had just received to find a replacement. They were nested in the box with the pins resting against the face of the next one. Seven or eight were chipped. Real smart packaging. No idea where they were mfg'rd. We found a "good one" to replace the chipped one, and swapped. Drove the car two hours home, and, you guessed it, another chip. Someone else (cant remember who) at Vintage at the Vinyards said they had the same problem. NOS= New Ole Chit, in this case. My issue has not yet been resolved. Dave V. in NC

This has happended to me too, several times.
I have come to the conclusion that it is better not to use the plastic or rubber grommets that are supposed to go in the holes of the C-pillar. The long, threaded pins of the original emblems stay in place without the fasteners. OK, they are fairly easy to remove, but I prefer this scenario to broken enamel in the black section.

The Chinese remanuf. emblems with short, plain pins is a different story. Try using childrens´ style putty in the holes and just push in the pins. The pins certainly don´t support any bending as enamel crack will inevitably result.

There seems to be either a design or manufacturing flaw with these parts. A friend has gone through several now, some bad at delivery, others break soon after installation on the car.

Wonder if BMWs parts warranty is covering these - it should.
