Has anyone replaced seals, gaskets O-rings etc. in steering box in order stop leaks? can it be done in the car or should it come out and be worked on in a vise. Any comments and experiences on this would be appreciated. Search doesn't produce much
Thanks

No,
but I have replaced them on 2 cars.
W&N has a scheme whereby you get buy a factory (ZF) overhauled one, and money back when you send them your old one.
All you have to do is move the pulley from the old unit to the new one.

Yes. I have rebuilt the PS pump, but not the gearbox. The unit definitely needs to come out of the car. There are some very small parts inside. Maximillian's carries the various replacement 'O' rings, bearings, and seals. Take a look at the diagram and get at least parts #6, 8, 10, 12, 13 & 16.

I had my gearbox rebuilt at a place in Camarillo, CA (Express Parts Exchange).
