I've got a pretty serious leak coming from the top loading screw on my power steering box.

Given that tightening the screw will only have an effect on my steering any clues on how I might be able to solve it ? Perhaps there is a seal under the screw if I remove the top cover plate that needs replacing ?

Any help appreciated
Thanks

me too

i have same prob, although not sure exactly what part of the steering box is leaking (all hoses new and tight). in addition, my steering box is pretty sloppy even after tightening adjustment screw. has anyone ever rebuilt one of these things themselves? rebuild kit avail? cost and complexity?
thnks much,

The boxes are mainly set by shims of varying thickness.

I would seriously endeavor to eliminate everything else than the box first. I thought the same too until I went through everything and it turned out to be the wheel bearings just needed adjustment; and they weren't that loose. The difference was readily positive- one finger driving at 85mph.( Yes, I do use both hands -mainly.) The slight wander or looseness went completely away.

SF Don had a rebuild source IIRC- maybe the trans and diff guys he uses.

But try to figure out where the leak is first; top, bottom, cover, etc. If it's being terribly deceptive maybe a dye kit would help.

Thanks for the tip.
I'll have a go at checking it out this weekend
