Hi all - A friend is selling his 20+ years owned, '74 coupe. I'd always asked he give me first right of refusal and earlier this week, he called and did just that. We agreed on a price, pending a "successful" PPI. The car is in VA and and I'm in CA so it'll be a "pictures only" purchase by me. Even though we've known each other for over 20 years and I fully trust him, we both figured it'd be best to get a 3rd party to give it the once over. So:
Can anyone recommend a shop or guru who could look at the car? Of course, I'm happy to pay for the inspection service. The current owner said he'd be OK driving the car to a location within about an hour of Charlottesville, if that helps.

Thanks,
Chris

I have a friend in Cville that is a smart 2002 and e3 guy...not sure if he is on this board. I will try to get in touch with him. Brad, are you out there?....

@dave v. in nc , @Stan - Thanks so much for the help! I spoke with the owner yesterday and neither of us is in a big hurry. We can make it convenient for whomever is able to do the inspection. Thanks again.

I've moved from VA, and my contacts are concentrated in the DC chapter of the BMWCCA. As noted those folks are two hours away.

My best recommendation is to see if anyone going to the Vintage is willing to drive down Hwy 29 through VA rather than taking either of the southbound interstates. This would take them right through Charlottesville then through Danville near Vrginia Int'l Raceway. I have done this a few times from DC south. The drive is beautiful, but it adds an hour to travel time through VA.
