The Pulse Generator/Trigger Points on my CSi distributer are shot. Real OEM said still available. Went to BMW dealer with part number. Guy checked and said DOT won't let BMW export euro parts to America.

Immediately called Carl. My new Pulse Generator is on its way. But Carl's guy told me it is a BMW employee here in the states who decides what come in and what stays home. Right now, not much comes in. Carl is trying to persuade him to loosen up. Over 80% of BMW "Classics" are here.

Perhaps someone who knows Carl better could contact him and see if there is some way we on e9 can help.

Over the last year there have been multiple such posts on the E24 forum. The priority list for an E24 has the euro M635 as number one but I wonder if this will change due to part import issues.

Remember the dealers are dealing with the same group that prohibited Ate blue because brake fluid has to be yellow-gold or it aint brake fluid.

excellent point !
it seems that the government is forcing citizens not to have a single chance of hurting themselves, we would call that " un estado paternalista ", unfortunately i do not know how this is translated into english:roll:

seriously i can not understand why this happens with bmw parts

We can have DQ buy these parts in Europe, polish them to a shine, and ship them to us.

The domestic arms of the various manufacturers make a swag of money from parts supply, arguably more than from actual vehicle sales. There has been a real clamp down in Australia on the sale of parts that bypass the local head office, i.e. online purchases from the likes of GetBMWparts et al. The respective head offices in Australia, USA and Germany got together to pressure the big sellers to stop sending to Australia. What's going on when an onseller in the US takes an online order from me, orders the part from Germany, receives it, packs it and ships it for half what it would cost me locally????
It's the same order from Germany!!!

Happy new year.

Jesus,

Here in UK it's "nanny state" and well understood and resented by all.

A very happy New Year to you and everyone. John

I hope we can learn what is really going on here. I could see BMW having an issue with DOT if they were importing Euro parts used to modify US vehicles. But I can't see a DOT issue with getting a part to fix a grey market car - where DOT has already signed off on the import.

For the moment I'm suspecting officious corporate bureaucracy as the problem...

123 ignition has an electronic distributor available for the CSi. This is the way I am going with Athena. Looks stock.

Regardless of the etiology of the problem, a good relationship with the dealer has usually allowed the parts to be had...at least that's the impression from the E24 forum.

BMW has been a bit of a PIA for a while, they are not listed on AllData last I looked.

Recently if you owned a Euro car and had the documentation to prove it then you could order parts for that car.
I don't own a Euro car but that info is from friends that do.

You might ask that question at a good dealer that is classic savvy.
