Problem with driver seat recline

My 1973 3.0 CS seems to have two passenger seats in the car. Or at least the recline adjust knob on the drivers side is adjacent to the tunnel on the right. The seats will ultimately come apart to be fully restored so my question is if the recline knob and mechanism can be swapped to the left side of the seat or I need to source the correct handed seat? The knob is correct on the passenger side so the seats are not swapped in the car. Both seats are the same.
Many thanks in advance.

Which side is the seat back release lever on the driver seat? It might explain if the entire seat is wrong.
Your pictures will also help.

I just checked and it appears the seats are not symetrical in their core structure:

That is what they should look like:

The adjust knob turns a squared cable that rotates a gear to set the angle of the seat. It has been a while but my gut says the knob can be re-sited to the outside part of the seat.

The squared end cable might just be disengaged from the gear shaft. I keep an umbrella under my seat and have yanked it out by accident a few times.

That situation would be a plus for me as I can use my stronger hand to operate it...
A Right Handed Driver Left Hand Drive car factory option?

The issue isn't that the recline knob doesn't work, but that the knob is on the inside of the seat. The seat belt female end is immediately adjacent to it and it's really hard to use.
