The title of "Hack Mechanic" has aleady been taken but I feeling pretty proud of myself tonight. I've done a lot of work on by BMW's over the years but never a full engine and trans swap. I bought my 74CSA with a seized engine almost 2 years ago. After trying unsuccessfully to get the motor to turn I decided to take a different course. I found a good running e12 with 5 speed earlier this year and went for it.
I went with the e12 L-jet set up because I believe it's easier for the first timer than the motronic swap. Anyway as of today the engine and trans are in which for me was the major hurdle. Runing fuel lines, figuring the wiring was never as daugnting as the actual heavy lifting of the swap itself. I have a heater in my garage so I'll be in there alot this winter, looking forward to that first drive in 2011. Pictures attached. Thanks for listening this is great group.
