In order to get the best possible ground connection, one should be able to make direct contact between the screw or bolt that will secure the ground wire to the bare chassis metal. Of course that also means that this particular area will be left and protected from the elements.

What are you guys using to handle this?

I was thinking of coating that whole area with dielectric grease. Are there any better options?

Yup. Dielectric grease. And use new screws if the older ones have any corrosion on them.

All of the above except for the grease Once installed, I use clear nail polish over the screw and connector/body . Old school, got lots of connections done 15 years ago that are still good underneath and external star washers

Thanks, Rick

Would a hard coating like the nail polish be susceptible to crack under heavy vibration?

I've used 'Corrosion X' on most every connection on several 'old or classic' cars. It Both removes any minute corrosion already there and prevents future corrosion of the contacts. I've heard it is not recommended for switches where contact is made and broken frequently,
