The TV ad for the new X6 (the one with the clay being worked into several BMW models) carries the tag line "the coupe... has been reshaped."

Reshaped into a 4 door AWD car-like thing with a B pillar. Which isn't a coupe. It's an AMC Eagle!

Sorry, but I just don't get BMW any more. They're lost.

Tony,

I couldn't agree more.

Have you laid your eyes on the new V5 in BMW's product pipeline? It's part 5 series, part minivan, part hatchback, part Prius, and part ugly. It makes the X6 look great.

As lost as they mey be, the twin turbo V8 is veeery interesting. Stick that in a 1 or a 3 and then we are talking!

Perhaps Paul Cain would want to stick it in an E12, given his pechant for crazy but well-done engine swaps? :D

Matt, I have to agree with that -- BMW has not gotten lost about the "Motor" part of their name. Maybe they should re-brand as DAGMW -- Dummes Auto Guten Motorwerks...

ha ha ha....

I've been trying to figure out what is this X6 as I drive by its SF billboard every morning. Not sure what to make of it, can't figure out its proportions, looks like a Subaru...

as for the new 1 series, seen one about town recently and it looks real nice. Might just have to visit the dealer take one out on a 'beat run'...

...just a coment from the peanut gallery.

I stopped at the deal and test drove the X6 the other day. Typical BMW interior. Drives like an F150 pickup on steroids. Visibility is worse that my wife's Murano (I didn't think this was possible).

I was thinking about trading in my 2003 540i, unfortunately there was nothing even remotely interesting on the floor.

Indeed, did you read the tech brief on the thing? They switched the intake and exhaust sides on the head so they could mount the turbos in the V. Should make replacing the turbos a lot easier. The exhaust routing is interesting, going over the transmission bellhousing with the cats right at the firewall. I sure hope that insulation is good, otherwise the cluster, driver's feet, and braking system will get more than a little toasty.
