Nicad:

I am thinking of purchasing a '72 2002 tii. It needs an engine rebuild. I can have the work done in the US (where the car is presently located ) but I'd prefer that have the work done locally here in Toronto.

Is there someone who rivals the work of 2002AD in Toronto?

Thanks, Brent

Better than 2002AD works too!

Just need to know if there's someone of talent and true craftsmanship in Toronto (or the general vicinity) who I can entrust this engine rebuild to and who knows their way around these engines and their mechanical fuel injection system.

If I were in Toronto ,I'd definitely go see this guy for your 2002, and your coupe.

Thanks guys for these replies.

I posted a thread over at 2002FAQ and will give Marcus a call in the morning. Glad to know there's someone local with a good reputation.

Hi Brent, I have dealt with a couple of shops in Toronto, but none I would hand a rebuild project over to. On the other hand years ago, I met Marcus at a track event. I happened to drop by his shop when one of my wheel bearings seized on my Corrado. He really helped me out and got me on my way. Talked to him quite a bit about the cars he had in his shop. I also had a ride around Mosport at full speed in his CSL race car. I think he is tops when it come to demeanour and character. His expertise is as good as it gets when you look at what vehicles he has laid his hands on. He has built some amazing race cars, including M1's, M5's, etc. He is no longer in Toronto, but about an hour out of town. I plan on taking my Coupe to see him and get it tuned once the basic refurb is done. I have had very little work done by him, but sense he is worth going out of town to visit.

Thanks Nicad (Bob). Sounds like good advice. Your experience with Toronto mirrors my own. I will be giving Marcus a call this morning.

Sounds like he is certainly worth the drive to Port Perry (as the advertisement for Acton Leather used to go)

I have met him a few times at BMWCCA Octoberfests. Nice guy. Seems to know a lot about coupes.

My only exposure to Marcus was at the track. His highly modified CSL blew the Porsches and everything else off the track. Passed them like they were going backwards.

Quite a driver.

Thanks again guys. I have a call into Marcus.

Meanwhile I went ahead and bought the car (subject to inspection). Here are a couple of photos:

Great looking project Brent, love the colour. They also seem to keep going up in value. I have a Malaga 72' that I am partially fixing up.

Marcus

I have come into this late, but would like to reiterate others comments .

Marcus is about as professional as they come a really nice guy. He did a beautiful job on rebuilding the LHD CSL I own, tweaked it a little and it drives absolutely awesome.

I must warn you he is often extremely busy though and may well be at Sebring this week.

Got the new car home on Thursday and took it to Markham on Sunday to show it to a fellow tii lover:

Nice looking car and interior. Really like the Colour. I bet you get a lot of response driving it around.
