Question for the Zenith gurus...

Is it correct that the secondary butterfly is not closed at idle? If I close the secondary at idle with my hand, the idle drops. I suspect my carbs are quite a ways out of whack, and this may be part of it and a good place to start.

Secondary butterfly should be as closed as it can be without sticking in the bore

Yes and there is a set screw on the side of the carb (out of the way-on the underside of the linkage) to adjust this, just open enough to keep it from binding, tiny amount. Then use mixture and butterfly screws for the rest.
